Cutting to order

Your stone. Your specification. Consistently.

For jewellers and manufacturers who can't afford variation, cutting to order is the service that changes everything.

What it is

Cutting to order means you define exactly what you need: size, shape, colour, saturation, cut style, and we cut it for you from rough at Sapphirus Lanka, our cutting factory in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka.

This service is specifically designed for melee and smaller stones, where consistency across a parcel is everything. Whether you're setting a pavé band, building a halo, or running a repeatable jewellery line; Every stone needs to match in cut and colour. That's what we deliver.

Who it's for

High-end jewellers and manufacturers who produce repeatable jewellery lines and need stones that match, not just once, but every time they reorder. If your line demands consistent cut, colour, size and saturation across every parcel, we are the right partner.
We also accommodate one-off commissions for clients with specific project requirements.

What you can specify

Size: calibrated melee to your exact millimetre specification, starting at 0.7mm. We work to your required size tolerance, from standard to highly precise, depending on your setting requirements.

Shape: round, oval, cushion, marquise, pear, baguette, tapered baguette, or custom cuts on request. For clients with non-standard requirements, we regularly produce complex cuts with eight to nine distinct sides, precise angles, and tight tolerances for the luxury watch industry. This kind of work requires highly skilled cutters and a deep understanding of geometry and light behaviour. If you have a non-standard cut requirement, bring it to us.

Quantity: no minimums.

Colour and saturation: this is where we go further than most suppliers. We have developed colour sample boxes for blue, pink, yellow, purple, green, and teal sapphires (View photos here). Each box displays the full range of shades available within that colour family that can be ordered, from the lightest pastels through to the most vivid, saturated tones. When you enquire, we share photos of the relevant sample box so you can identify the shade and saturation you need, and we communicate any limitations or challenges. For established clients with high-end projects and repeatable high volume collections, we can arrange to send the physical box directly to validate the exact colour and saturation required.

We also offer single colour ombre graduations and rainbow suites, which can include rare sapphire tones not available as individual orders due to limitation in supply.

How it works

You tell us exactly what you need. Our team at Sapphirus Lanka selects rough that will yield your specification and provides a quote. Once the price is approved by you, your stones are cut, matched, and stringently quality-checked before shipping.

Timelines depend on specification and rough availability. We will give you a clear estimate when you enquire.

Our guarantee

If the stones do not meet the specification you approved, you are not obligated to accept the order and may return the shipment. This is a rare occurrence due to our no-compromise approach to quality control. We stand behind every facet. This is only possible because we control every step of the process ourselves.

What you receive

Every order is laid out individually in a fitted box, not loose in parcels or bags. This protects the stones in transit and means they arrive at your bench ready to set, with no broken culets, scratches, or chipping. No sorting, no cleaning, and no handling required beyond opening the box.

We have heard consistently from stone setters at some of the world's leading jewellery houses that our stones are among the best they have worked with. Stones that are cut to a true calibrated size, with correct angles, proportions, and meet points, simply set better. Your setters will notice the difference in the speed of setting and, just as importantly, a significant reduction in stone breakages.
